Participants in the Waste to Value project visited Retuna Återbruksgalleria last week, where center manager Simon Glimtoft gave a tour of renovated premises set to open in August as a new reuse store for building materials. The project aims to clarify the possibilities and profitability of reusing materials instead of sending them to landfill or recycling. 67 million euros in support.
Part of the initiative is to create a similar store in Åland, though the exact location or name of that planned outlet has not been specified. During the week, the participants from Åland also attended the Viable Cities three-day event Transition Lab Forum, and they attended a lecture on how to handle hazardous waste when reusing building materials, though the specific methods discussed were not detailed. In Eskilstuna, there are many projects focusing on reuse, and the guests visited several of them: the dance floor in Fröslunda built with reused materials, the former care home Trumslagargården being converted into offices, and the pavilion near Hammarby church built with reuse from Kfast.
The number of participants from Åland who attended the visit and events remains unclear, as do the detailed criteria for measuring the profitability of reusing materials in the project.
