According to sources, employees at Volution in Växjö assemble fans and ventilation products. For the fourth winter in a row, employees are forced to work in winter clothes indoors. The heat pumps in the premises are insufficient to heat the entire area.
The temperature has been below 20 degrees Celsius on several occasions. Those sitting closest to the loading dock are particularly exposed to cold when the door opens during goods deliveries. Safety representative José Guzman said, "As soon as that happens, the indoor temperature is affected.
As soon as that happens, the indoor temperature is affected. It is a concern.
" The company hires staff via Samhall. After SVT contacted Volution, they installed individual heating fans, which the safety representative calls a temporary solution. It is unknown what specific measures Volution plans to implement for a permanent heating solution.
Samhall thinks the conversations with Volution have been good and does not want to terminate the contract. Peter Boklund, district manager at Samhall, stated, "We must ensure in good time that a good work environment is secured before next winter. " The Swedish Work Environment Authority has no exact limit for when it is too cold or too hot in a workplace.
We must ensure in good time that a good work environment is secured before next winter. Otherwise, we will bring our staff home.
The employer has a responsibility to ensure the temperature is suitable for the work tasks to be performed. If the air temperature during light and sedentary work deviates from 20–24°C in winter and 20–26°C in summer, the thermal climate should be investigated further. Whether the current temperature conditions violate any workplace regulations or have led to official complaints remains unclear.
