Sigtuna Museum Sets Visitor Record, Makes Holocaust Exhibition Permanent
Key Points
  • Sigtuna Museum has broken its visitor record this year.
  • The exhibition 'Mottagandet' about Holocaust survivors has been extended twice and will become permanent.
  • The museum is using new approaches to enhance accessibility and visitor experience.

The exhibition 'Mottagandet' (The Reception) has had high visitor pressure this year, contributing to the record-breaking attendance. It tells the story of the 600 survivors that Sigtuna city received from the Holocaust concentration camps in the summer of 1945. After being extended twice, 'Mottagandet' will now become part of the permanent exhibition, cementing its historical significance.

Last year's record was a milestone for the museum, but this year's numbers have surpassed it. Sigtuna Museum has worked not only on the exhibitions themselves but also on what is around them, using new approaches to lower the threshold to its exhibitions. In the museum's shop, visitors can buy jewelry made from Viking-age silver coins, rings, buckles, and Sigtuna's own Viking.

Ted Hesselbom is the head of Sigtuna Museum & Art.
