Key Points
  • Örnsköldsvik launches a job guarantee for healthcare graduates to fill nearly 100 vacancies in elderly care and LSS.
  • The program aims to attract young people to address labor shortages in healthcare and social care sectors.
  • Graduates can apply within ten months, with details on grade criteria and placement balancing still unclear.

Lina Lindström, a final-term healthcare student at Parkskolan in Örnsköldsvik, is very satisfied with her program choice. She and her classmates will be the first to apply for the job guarantee launched by the Örnsköldsvik Alliance on June 1. The program aims to attract more young people due to a great need for labor, with nearly 100 vacant positions in elderly care and LSS in the municipality.

Graduates from Örnsköldsvik Gymnasium's healthcare program with passing grades can apply up to ten months after graduation. The guarantee covers positions as support assistant in functional support and as assistant nurse or caregiver in elderly care. Applicants may be offered full-time positions with six-month probationary employment.

I have always liked working with people, and this feeling of actually making a difference.

They can submit placement preferences, but the municipality recruits based on need. Declining an offered position can result in losing the guarantee right. Students must have legal right to work in Sweden, and home care services require a valid B driver's license and personal car.

Several welfare job ads in Örnsköldsvik require a driver's license, and not all high school students can afford one during studies. ' She added, 'I think that many in the class and those who apply in the future can feel a security in that you get a job anyway, and that you then have the opportunity to later work to earn enough for a driver's license. ' Annica Jonsson, chair of the welfare committee (Moderate Party), hopes for a good initiative that attracts many to study healthcare and social care.

I think that many in the class and those who apply in the future can feel a security in that you get a job anyway, and that you then have the opportunity to later work to earn enough for a driver's license. I think it will give a lot.

She stated, 'I hope for a good initiative that attracts many to want to go into healthcare and social care. ' Annica Jonsson believes a job guarantee is not really needed in an industry that needs more people, but she says many young people today do not know what they want, so it can be comforting to know you have a job when you graduate. The specific criteria for 'passing grades' have not been disclosed, and how placement preferences will balance with recruitment needs remains to be seen.
