According to sources, the Nyköping Curling Club was founded in 1989 and is today the only active curling club in Sörmland. In Katrineholm, there is a curling section within the bandy club KVBS and equipment in the new ice arena, but there are currently no active participants. In Nyköping, there are about 30 active members, almost all of whom play in teams and participate in league play.
Recently, many people have contacted the club and shown interest in starting curling. The Olympic success has been noticed in Nyköping. It is not specified which Olympic success is being referred to, nor how it has impacted membership growth or participation rates.
