Roger Mugerwa Pettersson found a beetle in Vindeln in 2015, according to official sources. The beetle was initially identified as a more common species, but ten years later, it has been shown that the beetle is a unique new species in Sweden. The species is named Glischrochilus tremulae, and the finds in Vindeln are the oldest in Sweden, official sources report.
" There are a few other registered finds from later years, though the exact number and specific locations beyond Vindeln remain unclear. The common feature of the Swedish finds is that the species has only been found in known deciduous forest areas with plenty of aspen, and it thrives in old hollow aspen trees, according to official sources. Knowledge about the species is still very limited, with gaps in understanding its exact ecological requirements or threats, and it is unknown what scientific methods confirmed it as a new species or if any conservation measures are currently in place.
Many people did not believe me from the beginning.
The find can lead to aspen trees being preserved to a greater extent during logging, and that we better understand deciduous forest areas.
