Key Points
  • A man in his 30s was convicted for a boat accident in Piteå that injured a man in his 70s and his wife.
  • He was later convicted for a severe drunk driving incident one month after the boat accident.
  • His sentence includes supervised probation, community service, damages payment, and mandatory interventions.

In August 2024, a man in his 30s collided with another boat at too high a speed in Inrefjärden in Piteå, according to official sources. The accident seriously injured a man in his 70s, and his wife, in her 60s, suffered minor injuries. The man was convicted in district court for negligence in sea traffic and causing bodily harm, despite his denial, and the court of appeal upheld the conviction, stating in its reasoning that the man failed in good seamanship and that his negligence was not minor.

One month after the boat accident, the man caused a single-vehicle accident while driving severely drunk and without a license on the E4, official sources said. He was convicted for severe drunk driving and severe unauthorized driving for that incident. The sentence for all four crimes was supervised probation and 60 hours of community service.

He was bloody and swollen and unconscious.

The wife, Wife of the injured man

The man must pay damages of 95,000 kronor to the injured man in his 70s and participate in psychiatric and addiction-focused interventions deemed appropriate by the probation service. According to SVT Nyheter, the wife described the injured man as bloody, swollen, and unconscious after the boat collision. The exact speed during the boat accident, the specific injuries to the man in his 70s, and the man's blood alcohol level in the single-vehicle accident remain unknown, as do his name and the specific interventions he will undergo.
