  • He was found collapsed at home and rushed to hospital, with his girlfriend and family providing support.
  • His health issues include chronic back pain, mobility problems, and previous on-air incidents.

The stroke occurred after Holmes was found slumped unconscious at home and rushed to hospital, according to multiple reports. He was discovered collapsed at his apartment in Kingston upon Thames, South West London, by a carer on Tuesday morning, the reports indicate. Holmes has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better, a GB News statement confirmed.

His girlfriend, Katie Alexander, has been by his side in hospital pretty much all the time, except to get a change of clothes at home, a source said. His estranged wife, Ruth Langsford, is being kept updated via their son Jack, according to multiple reports. Declan Holmes, Eamonn Holmes' son, issued a statement thanking well-wishers and saying his dad is doing OK given the circumstances.

Holmes and Langsford split in 2024 and are currently in the process of divorcing, multiple reports indicate. Holmes had been due to return to GB News Breakfast next week, the programme he co-hosts from Monday to Wednesday with Ellie Costello, according to multiple reports. He has not been seen on air since March 11, the reports note.

Alex Armstrong will step in to present GB News Breakfast in Holmes' absence. His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready to return, a GB News spokesperson said. Holmes has suffered from chronic back pain since April 2021, diagnosed with a dislocated pelvis and three slipped discs, according to multiple reports.

Welcome back. Good to see you again. Especially good for me to see you again. I am still alive, yes.

He publicly revealed in September 2022 that he can't walk unaided, the reports indicate. He previously revealed he underwent surgery for both hips in 2016 to alleviate chronic hip, leg, and back pain, multiple reports note. He has long battled issues after dislodging discs in his back which he said previously impinged on his sciatic nerve and affected the mobility of his right leg.

He underwent additional procedures in January 2023 related to shoulder repair and spinal complications, according to multiple reports. He appeared to briefly fall asleep during a live broadcast in March 2026, sparking concern, the reports indicate. He had a couple of falls in May last year which seem to have taken place only weeks apart.

And they're very wonky wheels on chairs that we've got here, and matter of fact, we don't really like the chairs full stop, do we? They're a bit slippy and slidey and I've slipped and slid off mine there.

The former This Morning host was taken to hospital after a first fall at his home. Holmes fell from his chair live on-air during his GB News Breakfast show. During the on-air fall, a crash could be heard while the camera was focused on their guest, commentator Charlie Rowley.

Co-host Ellie Costello could be heard saying 'oh my gosh' off-screen during the on-air fall. Holmes told The Sun newspaper in 2022 that his health problems caused issues in his marriage to Loose Women star Ruth Langsford. The Northern Irish broadcaster presents GB News Breakfast with his co-host Ellie Costello.

Not the first guest to have done so, we've had a few, they have to remain nameless because they're well known people, but they've hit the floor really badly, quite frightening.

The specific hospital where Holmes is being treated for his stroke has not been disclosed, and the exact medical prognosis and expected recovery timeline remain unknown. The current status of his divorce proceedings with Ruth Langsford is also unclear.

And it was a bit of a shock for me because I've had a fall in my bathroom two weeks ago, which hospitalised me, and that hit me again right in the back. (I'm) really, really sore. Really sore.

The chair 'gave way' which meant he was lying flat on his back after the on-air fall.

The worst thing about this, of course, this was at a time when I was hospitalised two weeks ago for a very similar fall in the same area, back of the head, my neck, my shoulders. So it all came back, as it were.
