Key Points
  • Zepro's move to Poland threatens the school's industrial program and local jobs
  • An open house showcased school operations to the community
  • The move could lead to renewal and a broader focus for the school

Jämtlands Gymnasium in Bispgården held an open house together with Lärcentrum and Vuxenenutbildningen. The open house aimed to showcase the operations to the local population, families, and all interested people. In January, it became clear that Bispgården's largest private employer, Zepro, will move its operations to a factory in Poland.

Zepro's move means the high school's industrial technology program will lose a collaboration partner that could offer both internship placements and many jobs over the years. Student Leo Mattsson from Överammer hopes for a job after graduation but says it's a shame that Zepro is closing down. Paradoxically, Zepro's move could mean some form of renewal for the high school.

Teacher Stig-Allan Bergman believes the school might need to broaden its focus, as there is a shortage of people in craft trades like plumbers and electricians. He says this could be a development for the school. The exact number of jobs lost and when Zepro will complete its move remain unknown, as do specific new programs the school might develop and alternative internship partners being considered.
