The event requires a large ice hole, which the association Clemensnäs Hockey is cutting using a machine built with inspiration from YouTube. The competition opens on the evening of February 27, with events including poetry in the hole and music in the hole.

Competitions in winter swimming have been held in Skellefteå every year since 2012. Organizers expect around 500 participants to swim distances of 25, 50, 100, and 200 meters in the ice hole, as well as relays of 4 x 25 meters.
