The World Cup of Hockey will be held in February 2028, marking its first edition since 2016. The tournament will take place in Prague, Calgary, and Edmonton. It will feature eight nations and a total of 17 matches.
Prague and Calgary will each host seven matches, including six group stage games and one knockout match. The two semifinals and the final will be played in Edmonton. Teams confirmed to participate are Sweden, Finland, the United States, Canada, and the Czech Republic.
Three more teams will be selected, with Germany, Slovakia, and Switzerland considered strong contenders. Russia is under review by the organizer NHL, which is not bound by the boycott that prevented the team from the Olympics. Players such as David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins expressed excitement about the event in Prague, while Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers promoted their respective host cities.
