Emma Bundy died after falling from a bridge. She had been at a Christmas party at the Sandy Park conference venue, home of Exeter Chiefs rugby club, when she had a drunken argument with her boyfriend. Following the argument, she ran off towards the A379 pedestrian bridge with her boyfriend Billy Fleming running after her.
George Harris saw Emma Bundy in distress on the bridge, rang 999, grabbed her wrists, and held onto her for two to three minutes before she slipped and fell. 5 times the legal drink drive limit when she died, and her intoxication affected her judgment and decision-making. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, which followed a domestic argument.
Billy Fleming said Emma Bundy had drunk two bottles of white wine at the event and could not cope with alcohol. He said they ended up having a row and she swung her handbag at his chin. Billy Fleming said he loved Emma Bundy, describing her as beautiful, kind-hearted and would move mountains for anyone.
George Harris said Billy Fleming was dismissive towards him when asked about Emma Bundy, saying he described her as off her head. Emma Bundy's brother Shane said she was in a happy relationship and described her as beautiful, kind and popular. A work colleague said Emma Bundy looked amazing and was hard to miss at the party.
It remains unclear why Billy Fleming returned to the venue alone and left Emma Bundy on the bridge, or what immediate medical response occurred after she fell.
