Wildwood Trust Euthanizes Entire Wolf Pack After Social Structure Breakdown

A wildlife park in southeastern England has euthanized an entire wolf pack of five animals following escalating conflicts within the group, according to reports. The Wildwood Trust near Canterbury made the difficult decision after the wolves began turning on each other and attacking one another. The pack members, reportedly named Odin, Nuna, Minimus, Tiberius, and Maximus, were put down after what park officials described as an unacceptable risk of serious injury and welfare concerns.

Paul Whitfield, the park's chief executive, stated in a release that wolves are highly social animals living within complex family structures, and when that dynamic breaks down, conflicts and rejection can increase. 'In this case, it led to concerns for the animals' welfare and an unacceptable risk of serious injuries,' Whitfield said. He emphasized that euthanasia was 'the absolute last resort' for the wildlife conservation organization.
