A man has died after falling several floors inside the Henman & Cooper bar on Birmingham’s Colmore Row on Sunday evening, West Midlands Police confirmed. The force said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner, following the incident which occurred at approximately 18:20 BST.

The man, who is in his 40s, sustained serious injuries when he fell inside the popular city centre venue and was rushed to hospital, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead a short time later. Police officers and paramedics had been called to the scene just after 6.20pm and multiple emergency vehicles, including ambulances and police cars, were seen parked along Colmore Row, a usually busy thoroughfare lined with restaurants and bars. Witnesses described a large emergency presence outside the Henman & Cooper bar, where officers were observed entering the premises and speaking with staff members. West Midlands Police said: “We’re currently in Colmore Row Birmingham city centre, after a man is understood to have fallen a number of floors within a building. He has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. We’re currently at the scene with emergency service colleagues as we seek to establish the full circumstances.” The force added that they are investigating the circumstances of the fall, and at this stage, there is no indication of any third-party involvement.

Henman & Cooper, a well-known bar on Colmore Row that typically draws a weekend crowd, announced on social media that it would be closing for the evening due to “unforeseen circumstances.” The venue posted an apology to its customers: “We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by these unforeseen circumstances.” It did not provide further details, and the bar remained shut for the rest of the night as police continued their inquiry.

The man, whose identity has not been released pending formal identification, was thought to be in his 40s and his next of kin have been informed of the death. West Midlands Police has repeatedly stated that the death is not suspicious, and officers are now preparing a file for the coroner. Detectives are appealing for anyone who was inside the Henman & Cooper bar at the time of the incident, or who may have information relevant to the investigation, to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact West Midlands Police via 101 or the Live Chat on their website, quoting log number 3245 of June 2.
