According to Waymo, the autonomous vehicles are safer than human drivers, with serious accidents reportedly reduced by 92 percent and airbag deployments decreased by 83 percent compared to human-operated vehicles. The company also states that the self-driving cars have been involved in 82 percent fewer incidents resulting in physical injuries.
Waymo, originally an internal Google project, is now an independent company owned by Alphabet, Google's parent company.
