  • The coroner ruled his death a suicide by suffocation, with unclear circumstances.
  • Andrew McGhee died from drug toxicity in Consett around the same time, with details pending.

Senior Coroner Joanne Kearsley concluded that McGinty's death was a suicide, with the medical cause recorded as suffocation. She stated the circumstances indicated he had deliberately ended his life, though the exact reasons for his actions and why he checked into the hotel on December 16 remain unclear. According to England Water Polo, McGinty was a popular figure who coached several GB/England age-group squads and was a key driving force behind recent national programme successes.

Bolton School added that his passion for water polo and commitment to students will be greatly missed, while the English Schools' Swimming Association noted his decade-long dedication to school water polo development. In a separate case, Andrew McGhee from Consett was discovered dead in his bedroom on December 14. Coroners' officer Kelly Taylor said McGhee was found deceased by his father, with the cause of death due to the toxic effects of a drug, though the specific substance has not been identified.

Andy's passion for water polo and commitment to the students he coached was evident in all that he did. He will be greatly missed by all of us here who knew him.

I understand the circumstances to be that Mr McGhee was found deceased by his father in his bedroom.
