Volvo Cars has announced a major recall affecting more than 40,000 of its EX30 electric SUVs due to safety concerns with battery overheating. According to reports from Reuters cited by Swedish media, the recall involves 40,323 vehicles of the EX30 model. The company has identified a risk that the battery packs could overheat, prompting the safety action.
Volvo is currently contacting affected owners and will replace the batteries at no cost to customers. The recall is expected to cost the automaker several million dollars. In the interim, owners of affected vehicles are being advised to limit battery charging to 70 percent of capacity until they receive replacement batteries.
The company has not reported any incidents or injuries related to the battery issue.
