Newly produced Volvo cars from the Hisingen factory in Sweden are reportedly reaching Russian customers through Kyrgyzstan, despite comprehensive sanctions against Russia, according to an investigation by Swedish media. The investigation reveals that Russian car sellers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan are openly advertising and selling Volvo's flagship models, including the XC90 SUV, to customers in Moscow. One Russian seller operating from Bishkek reportedly dismissed questions about sanctions during conversations with investigators, stating that obtaining Swedish-made Volvos in Russia is not a problem.
The seller emphasized that the vehicles are Swedish-manufactured, with premium features including massage function seats, panoramic roofs, and crystal glass gear shifts signed by Orrefors. According to the investigation, the cars follow routes through Germany, Georgia, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan before reaching Russia. Corruption in Kyrgyzstan reportedly makes it possible for cars to be imported on paper without actually crossing the country's borders.

Anti-corruption expert Louise Brown commented on the findings, noting that extensive indirect exports to Russia through neighboring countries have been known to occur since the outbreak of war.
