According to the municipality, the roadwork has been completed ahead of schedule, and the intersection will reopen at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12. Residents, staff, and hospital visitors were affected by traffic rerouted via Snäck during the closure. All reconstruction has been inspected and approved.
The intersection has been narrowed to reduce vehicle speeds and increase safety for unprotected road users. New pedestrian crossings with tactile paving and improved lighting have been installed. The pedestrian and bicycle path along S:t Göransgatan has been widened and extended to existing bike parking areas. The nearby parking lot has been upgraded, with a new pedestrian path behind the spaces and curb stones to encourage lower speeds.
Niclas Camarstrand, unit manager for traffic and street, said the department is pleased to have implemented traffic-safe measures and thanked everyone for their patience, noting the reopening comes a month before the original deadline.
