  • Patient safety not affected, internal investigation shows

Region Gotland is cooperating with the police and has largely completed internal investigations, according to officials. The region has also initiated a labor law investigation. Hospital director Sari Stenius said the incident is serious but that patient safety was not affected.

The internal investigation found that the employer followed current procedures for background checks during recruitment. However, Region Gotland was already working on strengthening policies for recruitment checks before this case, and an external audit on credential checks had been conducted, with recommendations being addressed. The health and medical care administration's ability to comment is limited due to the ongoing police investigation.

HR manager Maria Skogh Jansson stated that the investigation shows a need to develop certain recruitment routines, and that work has already begun.
