A Swedish hockey game between Växjö and Örebro in Växjö was interrupted early in the first period due to an injury. The incident occurred with 1:37 left in the first period when Växjö's Ville Svensson and Örebro's Patrik Puistola lost balance during a check in the neutral zone. Svensson was reportedly hit in the face by Puistola's skate, fell to the ice, and then stood up before being assisted by a referee to the bench.
Ambulance personnel quickly arrived to provide care. After Svensson received treatment at the bench, the referees announced that the first period would end early, with the remaining time to be played before the second period. A few minutes later, Svensson left the bench with ambulance personnel to applause from the crowd and was taken out of the arena on a stretcher.
