Växjö municipality council is expected to soon confirm the construction of a new swimming pool in the Bäckaslövsområdet area, according to a report from SVT Småland. The decision has sparked debate about the future of the current swimming pool located by the lake. Pernilla Wikelund (SD), a member of the municipal executive board, wants the existing facility to remain as a family pool, but municipal leadership reportedly opposes this idea.

The current swimming pool has historical significance, with its first groundbreaking taking place in 1968 and opening four years later. The facility was designed by architect Åke E Lindqvist, who had previously designed swimming pools in the Stockholm area. An adventure pool was added in 2004 based on an idea conceived by then 11-year-old Daniel Farsi, who became the first to swim in the completed adventure pool at age 16.

The expansion also included a teaching pool with adjustable depth and gym facilities.
