Healthcare workers in Västernorrland region are being offered up to 100,000 kronor in extra compensation if they agree to move their vacation time outside the summer period. According to reports from multiple Swedish newspapers, the region is offering nurses and midwives 25,000 kronor per week of vacation moved, while assistant nurses and care assistants receive 22,000 kronor per week. The offer comes as many Swedish regions struggle with summer staffing shortages in healthcare facilities.
Västernorrland region has consistently been among the top regions offering such incentives, repeating a pattern seen several years ago when similar surveys were conducted. Many regions across Sweden are simultaneously attempting to phase out the system of extra compensation during summer months. Other regions have adopted different approaches, with some offering reduced amounts and others eliminating extra compensation entirely.
The staffing challenges reflect ongoing difficulties in maintaining adequate healthcare coverage during peak vacation periods.
