At the end of each month, Värmland libraries cannot lend e-books because they hit their budget limit. Petter Engelbertsson, coordinator of Bibliotek Värmland, says this is a recent trend where the budget ceiling is reached a few days before the month ends. Värmland residents borrow about 5,000 e-books per month, with each book costing libraries an average of 20 kronor.
The e-book budget is shared across the entire Värmland region, so if it runs out in Karlstad, it is also unavailable in places like Storfors and Munkfors. Engelbertsson hopes that if the trend continues, more funds might be allocated to allow lending more e-books in the future.
