The Left Party (Vänsterpartiet) has proposed establishing a youth council in Sölvesborg municipality to give children and young people increased influence in local decision-making. According to reports from BLT Blekinge Läns Tidning, the proposal has received support from the governing coalition in Sölvesborg.
Jörgen Englin (S), chairman of the children and education committee, welcomed the initiative, stating: "It is an excellent proposal, which I welcome." The proposal was discussed during political discussions at the Sölvesborg city library, where Willy Söderdahl (V), group leader for Vänsterpartiet, participated and emphasized his desire for Sölvesborg to establish a youth council.
It is an excellent proposal, which I welcome.
Vänsterpartiet reportedly submitted a motion on this matter in September of the previous year. Söderdahl expressed hope that the initiative would create better connections to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The political discussions at the library provided a forum for debating how to increase youth participation in municipal affairs.
