The municipality has had security guards in the city center since 2017. An evaluation in 2024 showed their presence has positive effects and contributes to an increased sense of safety, according to officials. New legislation gives municipalities greater opportunities to use security guards in crime prevention work.
The expanded area includes Kapellgärdet, Kvarngärdet, Källparken, Fyrishov's outer areas, Industristaden, the area around Fålhagsleden, the student area around Engelska parken, and the stretch between Akademiska sjukhuset and KAP. These areas were identified as needing more safety measures based on the municipality's safety survey and ongoing situation reports using the EST method, officials said.
