Key Points
  • Umeå hosted a two-day visit from the Gothenburg team behind the preschool Hoppet 2.
  • Study visits included Vuxenutbildningens hus and Hedlundaskolan.
  • Around 60 people attended an open lecture on circular construction.

Albin Karlsson, site manager at RA Bygg in Gothenburg, said Umeå has come a long way in integrating reuse in construction. Lina Frälsegård from Göteborgsfastigheter and architect Karin Skoglund from Kaka arkitekter were also present. The Gothenburg group shared insights about circular construction the next day.

Around 60 people from the construction and community sectors attended the open lecture. Lars Fredriksson, CEO of OF Bygg in Umeå, found it interesting to hear about their construction journey and noted that small steps can be taken for reuse. The project has contributed to reduced carbon dioxide emissions compared to traditional construction.

After the lecture, discussions continued in smaller groups, and a workshop was held with the business community. Liv Öberg, development strategist at Umeå kommun, said that reuse needs to become a natural part of the construction process and that this type of exchange is crucial.
