  • It includes a unique training facility, the first of its kind in Sweden.

The first groundbreaking for Umeå's new fire station took place on Wednesday. The station, called Umeå Östra, will be located next to the E4 highway near the planned residential area Tomtebo strand. It is expected to be completed in November 2027.

The fire station will be staffed by 40 firefighters and is designed for ten firefighters working shifts, with some living at the station weekly. The cost is around 200 million kronor. The facility will include a sports hall, gym, training rooms, hotel-like accommodations, a car workshop, laundry halls, and a shelter.

It will also feature a unique training facility with three practice apartments where firefighters can train with full water pressure, using waterproof concrete for floors and walls and regulated heat. This makes Umeå the first in the country to have such a setup. The aim is to shorten response times in the rapidly growing part of the city and have two stations spread out in Umeå.
