Four years after fleeing Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Liudmyla Överberg has reportedly stopped hoping to return to her homeland and instead built a new life in Köping, Sweden. According to SVT Västmanland, Överberg left Ukraine shortly after the full-scale invasion began and eventually settled in the Swedish town.
Överberg, who previously went by the surname Panasiuk, studies Swedish and English at Komvux and works as an artist, painting bright floral motifs in her studio. 'I have to do it to feel good,' she reportedly said about her art.
In an unexpected turn, Överberg met her now-husband Tommy through social media when she needed a new laptop. 'It's strange that you have to travel across the entire globe to find your person,' she was quoted as saying. The couple has since married.
On the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion, Överberg expressed the difficulty of the day, saying she longs for her old life but acknowledges that everything has been destroyed. She now considers Köping her home and does not plan to return to Ukraine permanently, though she hopes to visit to show others 'our fantastic country.'
