  • UK government targets Ryder Cup in 2030s and Olympics in 2040s.
  • Ryder Cup 2035 bid includes courses like Hulton Park.
  • Government to criminalize unauthorized ticket resale for Euro 2028.

According to government sources, the Ryder Cup is a key target as part of a programme to attract more blue-chip sporting events to the UK. Initial work has reportedly started on a mission to bring the Olympics back for the first time since London 2012. According to reports, the Ryder Cup will be held at Adare Manor in Ireland in 2027 and at Camiral Golf and Wellness resort in Spain in 2031.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said the government aims to host the Ryder Cup in the 2030s, most likely in 2035. Several courses, including Hulton Park in Bolton, are already in the running for the 2035 Ryder Cup, according to reports. The Ryder Cup was last played in England at The Belfry in 2002, at Gleneagles in Scotland in 2014, and at Celtic Manor in Wales in 2010.

Hosting these events well isn’t just about the big stages, it’s about fairness for fans too. People should be able to enjoy these occasions without being ripped off by ticket touts. That is why we are banning the unauthorised resale of tickets for these events, so that only official channels can sell tickets to fans.

The Olympic Games will be staged in Los Angeles in 2028 and in Brisbane in 2032. The UK is already the sole bidder for the 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cup. According to reports, the government will also encourage a bid for the Solheim Cup, which will be held in the Netherlands this year, and possible support for that bid is under consideration.

The government intends to set out a new framework to make bidding for sporting events more straightforward. England, Wales and Scotland will co-host Euro 2028 with the Republic of Ireland. The Women’s T20 World Cup, European Athletics Championships and Commonwealth Games are among major sporting events in the UK this summer.

We know that major sporting events have the power to bring our communities together unlike anything else. That’s why this Government is making it easier for us to host and deliver some of the greatest sporting events in the world, here in the UK.

The government will look to make it a criminal offence to resell tickets for specific major sporting events without authorisation, starting with UEFA Euro 2028. According to Daily Mirror - Main, Lisa Nandy described hosting these events as not just about the big stages but about fairness for fans, and said the government is banning unauthorised ticket resale so that only official channels can sell tickets to fans. She also said that major sporting events have the power to bring communities together and that the government is making it easier to host and deliver great sporting events in the UK.

She added that these events support jobs, leave behind world-class facilities, and can inspire a generation.

These events don’t just create great memories - they support jobs, leave behind world-class facilities, and can inspire a generation of girls and boys to pursue their dreams.
