Two lanes on the Öland Bridge in Sweden will be closed during the spring due to extensive maintenance work. The work will be carried out in two phases. From April 6 to June 15, the work will be concentrated on the northbound lanes toward Kalmar.
During the summer, the maintenance work will pause. It will resume on August 16, this time focused on the southbound lanes toward Öland. The maintenance includes measures such as painting, electrical work, and work under the bridge.
they are aware this will result in longer travel times for visitors to Öland during events like Pentecost or Öland's sprouts, but temporarily moving over a kilometer of barriers would prolong the work
In addition to the lane closures, the speed limit on the bridge will be reduced. The affected area is primarily a stretch of over 1,000 meters on the high bridge section, where a fixed workplace with barriers will be set up. Stefan Holst, project manager at Trafikverket, stated that they are aware this will result in longer travel times for visitors to Öland during events like Pentecost or Öland's sprouts, but temporarily moving over a kilometer of barriers would prolong the work.
