A traffic accident involving two cars occurred on E45 between Svappavaara and Vittangi near Kiruna on Tuesday afternoon, March 3, 2026. According to police reports, the accident happened at approximately 13:41 when one vehicle was reportedly rear-ended by another, causing one car to leave the roadway.

Both individuals involved in the collision were conscious and able to speak, according to the Norrbotten Police. At least one person required medical transport, with rescue services confirming that one individual was transported by helicopter to Gällivare Hospital while the other was taken by ambulance. The exact extent of injuries remains unknown.

During rescue operations, the E45 highway was temporarily closed to traffic. The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) initially reported traffic disruptions in both directions but later confirmed that the incident had been cleared and traffic was flowing normally again.

Police have launched an investigation into the accident and plan to interview those involved. The incident occurred in the Suptallen area, approximately 40 kilometers northeast of Kiruna.
