Two young children died in a house fire on Mason Street in Wolverhampton on Friday evening, according to police. Police were called to the fire at around 8:30pm on Friday, police said. Firefighters from Bilston, West Bromwich and Bloxwich Fire Stations attended the scene, West Midlands Fire Service said.
Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and rescued two young children, the fire service said. After rescuing the children, firefighters immediately provided emergency care, the fire service added. West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, three paramedic officers, HART paramedics, a MERIT trauma team and a critical care car from Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, the ambulance service said.
Ambulance medics administered advanced life support to both children, but they were confirmed dead a short time later, the ambulance service said. West Midlands Police confirmed the two children were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other children and a woman were already out of the house before emergency services arrived, according to police.
The two other children and the woman were checked by medics but did not need hospital treatment and were discharged at the scene, police said. Police have cordoned off the scene and are working with emergency service colleagues to establish the exact circumstances of the fire, police said. The cause of the fire has not been determined, and the ages of the children who died have not been released.
