  • The incident has sparked political condemnation and an investigation into threats and incitement to hatred.
  • The arrested men deny involvement and will face an investigating judge, while motives are unknown.

On Friday, February 27, a pig's head was discovered in front of Christian Estrosi's home, along with a poster of insults. The Nice prosecutor confirmed that two men were arrested. Two people were arrested and placed in police custody on Wednesday.

The first was arrested in Nice, the second in Seine-et-Marne. They deny being involved. The two men are known to police services, but 'not for this type of offense', and were born in 1988 and 1990.

They are to be presented to an investigating judge on Friday with a view to being charged. An investigation was opened for 'threats and insult against a person holding public authority' and 'incitement to hatred and violence on grounds of religion'. Christian Estrosi (Horizons), candidate for re-election in the municipal elections on March 15 and 22 in this southeastern city, shared a photo of the pig's head on social network X.

'Everything I have always fought against in my city is now knocking at my door. Abject,' commented the outgoing mayor in this post. He immediately received a message of solidarity from his main opponent in the election, MP Éric Ciotti, president of the UDR, allied with the RN.

The Communist Party of Alpes-Maritimes, through its departmental secretary Julien Picot, denounced it as a 'disgusting provocation, symbol of a worrying drift'. The motives behind this act remain unclear.
