C. The Washington Post reports that President Trump is advocating for Dulles International Airport to be renamed after himself. People familiar with the plans told the Washington Post that President Trump met with half a dozen construction and infrastructure firms at the White House earlier this month to discuss airport renovation.
The companies shared proposals including building new terminals, revamping the airport's layout, and doing away with the airport's shuttles. According to the report, one company proposed to rename the shuttles 'Direct Jet Transports' (DJTs), which are President Trump's initials. The White House reportedly told Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that President Trump would unfreeze over $16 billion for the Gateway Tunnel project if Schumer agreed to rename Penn Station and Dulles Airport after the president.
Dulles should inspire pride and awe in foreign travelers visiting our country and American citizens returning home.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer rejected the offer, saying he did not have the authority to rename the transportation hubs. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority already had a plan to overhaul Dulles and phase out the shuttles within the next 15 years. Sources told the Post that Trump officials reportedly feel the existing plans are moving too slowly and are looking to make rapid improvements without waiting for Congress to set aside additional funding.
The Trump administration is committed to using every tool at our disposal to ensure that Dulles lives up to our nation's majesty as we seek to both Make America and our Airports Great Again.
