Trawler raised, deceased fisherman recovered in Norway
Key Points
  • Trawler 'Amalie Sofie' raised and deceased fisherman recovered
  • Drone reported near Alta Airport
  • 15 applications for cow's milk recruitment quota in Troms and Finnmark

The vessel was originally at about 300 meters depth but was raised to around 30 meters on April 19. The police had initiated a search for a presumed deceased fisherman after a shipwreck in Varangerfjorden in August last year, in which two people were rescued. The vessel will be examined by police crime technicians in the coming days.

No conclusions about the cause of the shipwreck can be drawn until the police and the Accident Investigation Board have completed their examinations. Separately, police in Finnmark responded to Alta Airport due to a report of a drone in the vicinity. It is unclear who owns the drone.

In agriculture, the deadline to apply for a recruitment quota for cow's milk in Troms and Finnmark was May 1. The quota was 4 million liters, available for future young farmers to apply for at a price of 1 Norwegian krone per liter. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food reported that 15 applications were submitted before the deadline, with applicants under 36 years of age to be prioritized.

Of the 15 applicants, seven are under 36 years old. In labour disputes, NHO is taking legal action against LO over the union's fifth strike escalation in the hotel and restaurant strike. The strike escalation is postponed until the case is heard in the Labour Court.

LO was supposed to take out more members in a new strike escalation this coming weekend, which NHO now disputes. The dispute concerns 286 newly enrolled members included in the escalation. NHO believes that the strike notice sent 14 days before the escalation should have shown the number of new members per company, while Fellesforbundet disputes this and says such a list should only be provided four days before a notified escalation.
