  • Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas denies paying £40m-£43m for Onana
  • Manchester United's valuation for Onana is reported to be between £40m and £43m
  • Onana joined United from Inter Milan for £43.8m in July 2023

Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas said the club will not meet Manchester United's asking price for Andre Onana, which has been reported to be between £40m and £43m. "As the figure from Manchester United for the purchase of Andre Onana is in the range of €45-50m, our president has sincerely informed the community in line with Trabzonspor's realities," Kafkas told a press conference. The Turkish club's stance casts doubt on Onana's long-term future, as he is currently on loan at Trabzonspor from Manchester United.

Onana joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in July 2023 for an initial £43.8m, with a potential £3.4m in add-ons, according to reports. He has made 21 appearances for Trabzonspor so far this season, having moved to the Turkish side on loan last summer. The Cameroon international has experienced mixed form during his spell in Turkey, with some strong performances alongside occasional struggles.

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan hopes to keep Onana beyond the current season, according to Fotbolltransfers. However, Onana himself wants to fight to re-establish himself as Manchester United's No. 1 next season, recent reports suggest. Kafkas acknowledged the uncertainty, saying: "I don't think this information affected Onana at all. Because Onana's thinking is that if it's not England, he wants to continue at a club in Europe. His family thinks the same way. The president also wanted to explain Trabzonspor's reality. However, if the conditions change, the situation changes."

Meanwhile, Manchester United have also been active in the goalkeeper market, having signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for £18m, according to reports. The Belgian goalkeeper's arrival adds further competition for places at Old Trafford, potentially influencing Onana's decision about his future.

Several unknowns remain regarding Onana's next move. It is unclear whether he will return to Manchester United or seek a permanent move elsewhere, and Trabzonspor's actual valuation for the player has not been disclosed. Manchester United may also lower their asking price if no other clubs meet their valuation, and it remains to be seen whether Onana's desire to fight for his place at United is genuine or merely speculation. Other clubs could also enter the race for his signature, adding further complexity to the situation.
