Tomelilla municipality in southern Sweden has launched an unconventional recruitment campaign to address staffing shortages in the care sector. According to SVT Skåne, the municipality has produced a sitcom featuring real employees from the Norrevång dementia care home in Skåne-Tranås. The fictional series, set at "Notre-Vång," aims to showcase the lighter side of working in healthcare and attract new staff to the sector.
" The initiative is part of the municipality's broader effort to facilitate recruitment in support and care services. Jenny Persson, an assistant nurse at the care home who plays the character Alice in the series, explained the approach: "We want to show the fun and lighthearted side of working in healthcare. " The sitcom features ordinary employees as actors, with the municipality hoping the project will increase engagement among existing staff while attracting new recruits.
We want to do something new and exciting that no one else has done before.
This creative approach follows similar efforts by other Swedish municipalities, including Sjöbo municipality's use of TikTok to attract young people to summer jobs in healthcare.
We want to show the fun and lighthearted side of working in healthcare. It doesn't have to be so serious all the time.
