Swedish telecommunications company Telia and streaming service Viaplay have reached a last-minute agreement on a new multi-year contract, according to reports from Sveriges Radio and Östgöta Correspondenten. The deal was finalized just before the previous agreement was set to expire at midnight on February 26, 2026. Had the parties failed to reach an agreement, Viaplay's content - including TV3, TV6, sports channels, and streaming services - would have been cut off for Telia's customers.
Oscar Karlsson, head of consumer business at Telia, stated that the partnership with Viaplay is evolving in line with customer needs, which is reflected in the new agreement. The resolution comes after what was described as a 'TV dispute' between the two companies, with negotiations going down to the wire before reaching a successful conclusion.
