South Wales Police have confirmed an arrest has been made following reports of a man with a firearm near Whitchurch High School in Cardiff on Wednesday evening. 10pm to reports of a boy with a firearm near the school. Upon arrival, officers determined that the weapon involved was a BB gun.
Subsequently, a 16-year-old boy from Ely was arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm. Eyewitness accounts noted a hefty police presence - including armed officers - in the vicinity of the school. The car park was cordoned off as police officers responded to the unfolding situation.
The motive for the teenager carrying the BB gun remains unclear. The incident comes after a separate stabbing in Alum Rock earlier this week, where police said a man in his 20s died. In that case, a 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing and remains in police custody.
06pm following reports a man had been seriously injured. Three ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma team and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance responded to the scene. A woman also sustained injuries not believed to be life threatening or changing in the Alum Rock incident.
