Jonas Kanje, the current editor-in-chief of Sydsvenskan, has been appointed as Sweden's new Media Ombudsman (Allmänhetens Medieombudsman). He will succeed Caspar Opitz and officially assume the position on September 21, 2026.

Viveka Hansson, chair of Mefo (Medieetikens förvaltningsorgan), which administers the media ethics system, expressed satisfaction with the appointment, noting Kanje's long journalistic experience, particularly in local journalism which constitutes a significant part of the media industry.
