The regional board of Västra Götaland, Sweden, decided on February 24 to expand the purposes of Biobank Väst, the region's biobank. The decision follows a new biobank law that enables more uses for samples in regional biobanks. In addition to previous purposes such as healthcare, research, and education, Biobank Väst can now use samples for product manufacturing and related education, quality assurance, and development work.
The board also received information on the ongoing work to develop a modular healthcare information environment in the region, which will be implemented gradually over several years.
