Children at Wennerbergs preschool in Lidköping, Sweden, have taken matters into their own hands after their winter cucumber supply was discontinued. According to a report from SVT Väst, the preschool stopped purchasing cucumbers during the winter months due to rising prices and environmental concerns. In response, the children and teachers began growing their own cucumbers starting last autumn.

Five-year-old Walter Blaag expressed enthusiasm for the project, reportedly saying, 'Much better than from the store. ' Preschool teacher Lena Salqvist explained that the decision was partly motivated by winter price increases and the fact that cucumbers are out of season during colder months, requiring significant imports from abroad. 'And we prefer to be environmentally friendly,' Salqvist added.

So far, the preschool has produced about twenty cucumbers that are used for breakfast and snacks, with some seeds being saved for next year's planting. The initiative has proven successful enough that the preschool plans to continue the practice.
