The Swedish Parliament Administration has announced plans to expand the security net installed in front of the public gallery, according to reports from Swedish media. The protective netting was originally installed after audience members threw tomatoes and red onions at Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (Moderate Party) during a parliamentary debate in October 2024. The net currently covers half of the public gallery but will be expanded to cover two-thirds of the area starting in mid-April.
' The expansion will reportedly allow more members of the public to attend parliamentary sessions while maintaining security. The press gallery and diplomatic gallery will remain without netting according to the Parliament Administration.
the purpose of the net is to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
