According to multiple reports, the hotel owner applied for and received permission to serve alcohol in the morning, a departure from Swedish regulations that normally allow alcohol service from 11:00 AM. Höganäs municipality approved the permit. On the premiere day, more guests than usual were present to have breakfast with schnapps or sparkling wine, according to reports.
Four Danish women from Copenhagen spent the weekend at the pensionat and were surprised by the commotion, reports said. A couple, Jonas Lundgren and Stephanie Dahlquist, stayed at the hotel for a cozy weekend. According to Aftonbladet, hotel owner Christer Paulsson described the morning alcohol service as "one of the most sinful things you can do in Sweden" and claimed it was the first such permit in the country.
Now sin is back in Mölle. In the old days you could bathe sinfully here. It's one of the most sinful things you can do in Sweden – to drink alcohol in the morning.
Guest Tobias Itzigehl compared the experience to a champagne breakfast after high school graduation, according to Aftonbladet. Sysser Lodberg Rosenkrands, a guest from Copenhagen, said she does not drink alcohol in the morning herself but noted that many older people enjoy it, according to Aftonbladet. Katrine Nörgård, another Danish guest, suggested that regulating evening alcohol might have more health impact, according to Aftonbladet.
Jonas Lundgren said he was tempted to shout "finally" and that the municipality's goal is not to increase drinking but to allow drinking when desired, according to Aftonbladet.
This is the first time in Sweden that you are allowed to serve alcohol in the morning.
It feels like the champagne breakfast when you graduated from high school. Back then we drank this early in the morning.
I stopped after a few glasses. It didn't suit me then – at that age.
I don't drink alcohol in the morning myself. I don't think it suits breakfast. But many older people think it's lovely with 'the little one' in the morning.
It's nice with restrictions. Danes drink more than they should. But it probably doesn't matter if you ban it in the morning.
I think it would have had more effect if you regulated it in the evening. A time in the evening when you are no longer allowed to serve it would probably have had more health effects.
I was a bit tempted to come in disguised and shout 'finally'. What they are working for in the municipality now is not that we should drink more but that you should be able to drink when you want.
My stomach feels great. I'm not saying you should medicate yourself like this, but in body and soul this is fantastically pleasant.
