Maria Lindeberg, who grew up in Eksjö, is competing this year after being fascinated by seagulls as a child and learning early to imitate their sounds. When her friends heard about the championship, they nagged her to enter with what she calls her 'party trick', and she is now getting help sewing a costume for the event. The championship, which drew about 70 participants last year, features judging criteria where 75 percent is based on the actual cry and 25 percent on costume and acting.
