The Swedish Foreign Ministry (UD) confirmed it is aware of the case and is following developments. UD said the man is held in custody by Israel. According to the organization Global Sumud Flotillas, which is behind the convoy involved, the detainee has Swedish citizenship but resides in another EU country.

Early on Thursday, the Israeli military stopped about 20 boats carrying activists near Crete in the Mediterranean, en route to Gaza, a military source said. The activists, including several Swedes, were brought ashore in Greece. Ekot reported that two people are detained, including the Swedish man. The exact identity of the detainee and the specific nature of the alleged links to Hamas remain unclear. The status of the second detainee has not been disclosed.
