Swedish agencies train 2,000 managers for crisis leadership
Key Points
  • 2,000 managers from 10 Swedish agencies are being trained in crisis leadership.
  • The training includes self-study and group work over 18 months at five locations.
  • The program is a collaboration between several agencies and the Swedish Defence University.

The program is a collaboration between Försäkringskassan, the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), the Swedish Defence University (Försvarshögskolan), and agencies in the preparedness sectors Economic Security and Basic Data Supply, Försäkringskassan said. It includes 2-3 days of self-study and 2 days of group work. Försvarshögskolan trained 40 instructors from the agencies to lead the sessions. All 2,000 managers will undergo the training at five locations in Sweden over 18 months.

Malin Malm, a manager at Försäkringskassan who completed the training, said it provides concrete tools for making quick decisions and prioritizing under pressure. Monica Sjöstrand, a lecturer at Försvarshögskolan, said the training aims to increase managers' ability to act decisively in uncertain situations. Nils Öberg, Director General of Försäkringskassan, emphasized that agencies must function in all situations, including crisis and war. The training is part of broader civil defense efforts to ensure key societal functions work under any circumstances.

This training should give managers an increased ability to act quickly, decisively, and with good judgment in uncertain situations and hopefully also inspire more parts of civil society.
