Sweden's U21 football team has missed qualifying for the European Championship for the fifth consecutive time. The team lost 0-4 to Italy in Borås, eliminating any chance of reaching the tournament in Albania and Serbia next year. With two matches remaining in the qualifiers, Poland or Italy will take the direct spot, and the other team will go to a playoff.
Sweden is eleven points behind second-place Italy in the group. Sweden last played in the U21 European Championship in 2017 and won the tournament in 2015.
