The Health and Medical Care Board decided on common compensation for digital healthcare across county borders, according to an official statement. From June 1, 2026, uniform compensation levels for digital visits in primary care will apply: 435 SEK for a doctor's visit, 405 SEK for contact with a psychologist, counselor, or psychotherapist, and 235 SEK for contact with other licensed healthcare personnel. The compensation includes patient fees and is intended to cover costs for sampling and medical services.
For a digital contact to qualify for compensation, the patient must identify themselves with strong authentication, a licensed healthcare professional must make a medical assessment, and the contact must meet the region's requirements for record-keeping. Simple measures such as prescription renewal without a new medical assessment, appointment booking, or referral to self-care do not entitle to compensation.
The change means that Region Värmland pays lower compensation per contact to private healthcare providers, but also receives lower revenue for the digital services that the region itself sells to patients from other regions. The Board also urges the Collaboration Committee to make necessary adjustments to the common price list for primary care in the Healthcare Region of Central Sweden.
Daniel Schützer, Chairman of the Health and Medical Care Board, said he was glad that the board had decided on tightening regarding online doctors across all regions and measures for Region Värmland. He also noted that the region's own app, Vård i Värmland, works well and offers more capabilities.
